Development of multifunctional

forests on disturbed spruce stands

Innovative solution for damaged spruce areas

{{brizy_dc_image_alt imageSrc=

In the recent years, spruce forests in Germany have largely died off due to extreme weather events and spruce bark beetle infestations. Since then, large clearings have dominate the landscape in many areas. But are these large-scale clearings of dead spruce stands ecologically desirable, economically reasonable and socially accepted? In the project ResEt-Fi, various management concepts for the development and promotion of multifunctional forests on disturbed spruce stands are tested and evaluated.

“LabForest” uses the possibilities of the university forest of the LMU Munich as a real laboratory to compare the forestry and timber industry effects of different management options in connection with the effects of climate risks and to evaluate their effects on biodiversity and important ecosystem services.
