ABOUT REGULUS
Forests make an outstanding contribution to our livelihoods. They protect the climate, water, and biodiversity. They provide spaces for recreation and, with the raw material wood, offer a resource of central importance to the economy.
The current challenges faced by forests due to storms, droughts and infestations are linked to the growing and increasingly diverse demands from society. As a result, forest management and the wood industry are confronted with pressing questions that can no longer be addressed by sectoral research approaches.
Therefore, the central aim of the REGULUS research is to strengthen interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research and actively shape the research landscape of forests and wood in order to develop forward-looking strategies for a climate-protective forestry and wood industry.
Currently, ten regional REGULUS innovation groups in Germany are conducting research on concrete solution concepts for a sustainable and climate-protective forestry and wood industry. This includes the development of climate-adapted forest-wood management systems, multifunctional forests on degraded land, strategies for preserving ecosystem services under drought stress, and the material utilization of recycled wood. Additionally, digital tools are being developed to understand the dynamics of forest ecosystems.
The scientific accompanying project WaHo_boost promotes networking between the REGULUS innovation groups and thereby acts as a cross-cutting project. The main goals of networking are advancing collaboration, synthesizing overarching results, and preparing them for stakeholders and the public. Central to this is the integration of forest and wood research, as well as the dialogue between research and practical applications in the field.
The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) supports REGULUS as part of the strategy "Research for Sustainability" (FONA).
Connecting the REGULUS innovation groups of forest and wood research and creating a common understanding for solution-oriented research
